In Episode 5 of our 1st season, we tackle the biggest media stories of the past week, and here are my key takeaways from the fascinating discussion:
Cool digital media companies that focused on “millennials” (VICE, Vox, Buzzfeed, NowThis, Thrillist, etc) have gotten married with kids, looking to make a downpayment on a new house. It’s a CFO media story now, not the sexy one of the past 15 years.
The new model for media looks more like what we saw last week with Pat McAfee and his $30M deal with Fanduel as gambling sites make it rain $$$ like never before in media…
And how Facebook facing a class-action lawsuit in California for genocide in Myanmar is just the latest example of how they likely won’t be able to shake off what they’ve done the past 15 years, and rebrand / escape to the Metaverse for new pastures.
This week, I’m joined with my panel of media friends:
Brian Morrissey, former president/EIC of Digiday & founder of The Rebooting (great newsletter & podcast exploring how to build sustainable media businesses)
Mosheh Oinounou, IMO the best news account on Instagram (@mosheh), and former exec producer for CBS News, Bloomberg TV, Fox News. Now he’s prez of Mo Digital.
